How about f2 - f2.5

Was one of my first cameras, the Casio QV-3000.

It was the first camera in the market with the Sony 3MP sensor, the lens was a sharp Canon 33-100mm Eqv with bright f2 - f2.5 apertures. It uses CF cards and AA batteries, so it has zero obsolescence issues.
Its only problem is that is big and ugly as hell, but it has great ergonomics.

Also the JPEG engine was not that sophisticated, but the camera can save Raw files through a firmware hack.

If you know what the gems of the past are is great fun to visit the the Pawn shops. Here in Florida they have plenty of classics under $50. They price cameras by the megapixels.

A sample shot from the DPR review.
