Re: Karma... the D-Lux-4 has already been reviewed here

The Leica D-Lux-4 and the Panasonic LX3 are the same camera.

The only difference between the two cameras is:

  • exterior styling (The D-Lux-4 lacks a finger grip)

  • the Leica has a much better warranty

  • Leica customer service is usually better

  • the Leica comes with better software

  • the Leica comes with a red dot

And none of the above will affect image quality one bit.

And there is also a rumor that Leica has "tweaked the firmware" to produce better results. But this rumor cannot be confirmed and seems to have eminated from someone who spent $300 more for the Leica badged LX3. But even if this was true, the LX3 can be "tweaked" to get results that look just like the Leica's by modifying the contrast, color, saturation and sharpness settings.

The LX3 has had a comprehnsive review, and achieved a "Highly Recommended" rating. There is a 100% probablity that the Leica version would score exactly the same.

Reviewing the same camera twice would be completely pointless.

This really isn't anything new for Dpreview and they have never before done full reviews on the same camera wearing different badges. If they review one, they have reviewed them both....

  • After reviewong the Leica Digilux 2, there was no need to review the Panasonic LC1

  • After reviewing the Panasonic LX-2, there was no need to review the Leica D-Lux 3

  • After reviewing the Pentax K20D, there was no need to review the Samsung GX20

and there are a few other examples too...
