And you might be one of those folks, but I really doubt that people with that much disposable income are "typical" on these forums.

And yes... to me and lots of other folks $2000 is a lot of money. Technically speaking, almost everyone here can afford to buy that camera, but most choose to spend that money on something else. Like maybe a GF1 and $1200 worth of groceries? Most people DON'T have unlimited disposable income, and must set priorities for spending.

I think that's the part that you don't get.

The point of my post wasn't to denigrate wealthy people spending their money on whatever suits them, the point was to explain that "performance and value aren't the only factors that matter." Because if they were, then no one would ever buy a Leica. There just are too many other cameras that perform better or provide much better value.

Clearly, people wouldn't buy very high priced luxury goods unless they percieved some advantage to owning them. And it makes more sense to acknowledge the intangable factors rather than trying to make a "best performance case" for a product that truly isn't the best performer.
