70-300 DO to reduce weight when hiking?

In a couple of weeks I will be doing a snow shoe trek into "huts" here in the Colorado Rockies. Not being in great shape or all that experienced I am trying to keep my carry weight down. I plan to bring my 5D Mk II and my 24-105L. I am also wondering about bringing the 70-300 for a longer reach. I have a 70-200 IS and a 100-400 but as you all know they are quite a bit heavier.

What issues should I anticipate with the 70-300 DO and is there anything I can do to mitigate those issues?

(I'll be shooting a lot of "snow"scenes.)

Thanks,
