New dad seeking advice on lenses.

When my daughter was a year old, I found that I used a 40mm f1.7 Canon rangefinder a LOT. The wide field of view was useful in keeping up with a kid that age.

The 50f1.4 is not too long indoors, but may have too narrow a field of view for a young and rapidly moving child.

I'd recommend the Canon 35f2. It is sharp and takes good photos in natural light. It focuses quickly and is great for candids. It hasn't left my camera since I got it. The price is good. It is an old design, but it works well.
