My conclusions on the 70-200 VR-II (review)

Well, since I think I was one of the folks here that started the whole thing with the new 70-200 field of view with this thread ( http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1030&message=33847104 ), I thought perhaps I'd post a follow-up after some more testing.

The original 70-200 was a workhorse lens for me, for everything from waist-up to tight beauty and head shots. I've spent a bunch of time now with the new lens, with real subjects and with test subjects. All in all, I think it's a fantastic lens...except for the field of view characteristic. I've written up a complete review on my blog that covers the specific areas that are important for me:

I just love this new lens, but I'm still very close to sending it back and just continuing with the old lens...which bums me out, for lots of reasons.

I've noticed some folks talking about it being an insignificant difference; I'll just post one shot here (from my review post) showing the real-world difference:

The second shot just can't be done with the new lens (without a teleconverter or close-up attachments). If you need to take shots like that, then you've got to use something else.

Anyway, hope it's useful for someone out there!
