USB transfer speeds on MacPro - too slow? (tech problem)

Hi,

I have a brand spanking new MacPro (8-core, 14 GB Ram), plenty of HD space). Transferring images from my Sandisk ExtreemIII cards via Lightroom to my Harddisk goes way slow (much, much slower than it would take on my PC previously). Last night I transferred 510 RAW images in 51 minutes (RAW images from Nikon D700)! Does that sound right to you - or is that far too slow?

I am using a normal card-reader that connects via USB to the front of the MacPro. Have ordered a Lexar FireWire Cardreader, which should be faster (right?), but it hasn't arrived yet. In any case, I cannot help wondering if something is wrong. I also have connected a Wacom tablet and two printers via USB (on the back of the MacPro) and they work fine - but there speed is not an issue.

When I type USB in the spotlight, I see a utility named USB server. But when I click it, nothing comes up. Is that right?

Any help you might is greatly appreciated!

Rogier
