Lapwing chicks update (5 pics)

About three weeks ago I posted pics of three lapwing chicks about two days after they hatched in the garden of a nearby home for the aged.

A pic from three weeks back to refresh your memory:

Yesterday I went to have another look at them, and was happy to find all three still alive. Apart from them being bigger, it's interesting to note that they've also developed some preferences of their own. One of the youngsters prefers his/her dad's company, while the other two don't wander too far from their mom. They've also grown more independent of their parents and hide on their own when they sense danger, instead of making a beeline for the cover of their mother's wings as before. Alas, no more group photo's of the family together! It's difficult to get near them with the 55-300, and I had to crop heavily.

Father and son?

They run quite fast, but cannot fly yet:

One chick keeps an eye on me, while the other is burrowing in the ground, probably in search of a worm:

They only allowed me one chance to get a reasonable close-up:

Hope you enjoyed them.
