Some recent pics... all D700 with mostly 50, 85, and 105 DC (lots if images)

Thanks all for looking!

A little info about the shots for those of you who asked. Almost all shot with either 50, 85, or 105 fixed lenses. The lighting is as follows if I remember correctly:
  1. 1 Light to camera left (gelled with orange) and a backlight. (Both SB 800´s)
  2. 2 Beauty on the left and small SB on the right- the right side is fill but almost the same level as the beauty- this kind of lighting is great for headshots.
  3. 3 Soft Box camera right and a small SB unit back left for the side splash on the cheek and shoulder. Later I changed the BG color from red to aqua in PS.
  4. 4 Natural Irish light :-)
  5. 5 Big ass reflector panel to the left (bounced a strobe off of it to light her) and a small SB unit behind set at small power for the kiss of backlight on her left shoulder
  6. 6 The light that was in the theater (wish I would have had my SB 800´s with me!!)
  7. 7 Huge DYI softbox to the right and big panel again to her left for fill
  8. 8 Same as 7 but backlight insted of fill on left
  9. 9 Softbox camera right and another umbrella bounced of the ceiling for general fill. Can´t remember if I lit him or not with another small SB unit
  10. 10 Obvious
  11. 11 Available light from the after wedding banquet
  12. 12 AL
  13. 13 Small ezylight soft box to camera left mixed with AL
  14. 14 Ezylight camera right with another SB 800 behind left for BL
  15. 15 Window light
  16. 16 Ezybox with SB 800 camera left (opened two times in LightRoom- once for left side exposure, once for right) and combined in PS
  17. 17 Natural window light
  18. 18 Same as 16
Thanks again to all for the comments! Will try and post more when I have time (and photos worth posting of course!)

I totally don't get all the super high contrast and the blown highs, lost lows.... Some of these shots are nice, and for family stuff I guess they'd be ok. Nice expressions and whatnot from the people.... but I am put off by what I think is really odd exposure and processing.

Fabulous shots, some of the best lit and most interesting portraiture I've seen for a long time.

And thanks too for the lighting explanations - I spent ages wondering how you got such atmospheric lighting, now it makes sense.

Excellent work. I love the composure of all your shots.

nice thanks (nt)

NICE! I want to get some more lenses and try my hand at something ..... :D

First of all I thought I would look at them a few times, discard the poor shots then tell you the ones I liked, well! after going through them 7 times I cannot find 1 that I don't like, a truly excellent group, well done.

Thanks all again for looking! Glad the lighting setup stuff helped! Its always nice when you see a photo you like, to be able to have that info. I´m getting ready to start a new company/website here in Madrid. One of the things I want to do is a have a blog (finally) and put in vids showing parts of sessions and the lighting setups... a la Chase Jarvis, Mcnally, Arias, etc... I love seeing that kinda stuff and LEARN soooo much!

Thanks again!

Noah

PS To Thaugler.... Could you please be a little more specific with your comments? Ie... which photos... Thanks!

I'm not sure in the picture with the lady putting on lipstick in the mirror did you intend for it to have that grainy look, but its really done very well - and if that's how the high ISO performance is of the D700 then its even better!

My favorite was the one of the lady through the hat.
