I bought my D200 a year ago.

D300 was out for a while, but Nikon's site still had the D200, D2xs, etc as cameras and were still buyable from many sites new. D60/XSi/D80 etc were pretty much established (D90 just coming out for a couple months).

The AF system in the D90 came from the D200, so they shared similarities... and if I couldn't get a D200 I'd probably pick the D90... older tech or not. The build and the way the D200 feels in my hands is tremendous... handling D40/D60... just feels like a toy now. I've never handled a D90, but it does have the finger/thumb dials of higher end DSLRs... superior I feel over menu based ways of changing settings.
