Nicely done... what lens and settings?

Here are a couple of mine... new 7D with 100-400mm @ 400mm. Settings: f/8, 1/1500, iso400, one-shot, af point expansion.

Very nice Canada Geese shots. Why did you use single shot vs AI servo.?

I used single shot expanded because I was just playing around, trying different modes, speeds, and settings and while shooting something else these geese suddenly flew up. I just pivoted and shot... no time to change. Simply snapped as fast as I could. If I had been planning to shoot flying geese, I'd be using AI-Servo and one of the continuous shooting modes.

Incidentally, I have had quite good success with BIF, backlit by the sky, handheld, using the 100-400 with a Kenko Pro 300 1.4X TC with three pins taped, using all 19 AF points.

7D and Bigma (Sigma 50-500mm). I wasn't too convinced by the Bigma for bird shots with my 40D, if I missed the bird it would just focus on infinity and beyond and have to be focused back manually. Recovering from misfocusing is far better with the 7D so I have stopped dreaming about the Canon 100-400mm IS (for now at least, ;-) ) ...
