Re: A550 Initial review & samples vs. A300

High ISO - I ran off a basic test when I got home - real simple and unprofessional - just to test compared to the A300. I used the same lens (18-250), tripod in fixed location, manual mode with 1/30 shutter and F3.5 and ISO3200, pointing at the same spot.

Here's the A300's 100% crop, unedited:

And for extra comparison, here's the A550 shot resized to match the A300, then cropped 100% (and unedited):

I personally find the lack of chroma blotching and color accuracy to be much nicer...and the grain is what I'm looking for.

And just one 'normal' shot at ISO3200...I had the SAL18-250mm on, and when I came into my room, the cat was on the bed sleeping, so I couldn't resist cranking up the ISO for a shot. Here's the resized shot at 1024x768:

And for anyone wanting to pixelpeep, here's the full size:

Note: this is handheld at 1/6 and the camera not even set up yet...just P mode. I'm happy, and I'm impressed.

For those who want more daytime, low ISO, and real world shots with the A550, I promise I'll have a bunch in about 11 days, when I get back from the Caribbean. I'll be hitting Tortola, Martinique, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, and Bahamas.
