I've owned some of the best lenses in the world. Most were flawed in a serious way....the 17-35, 28-70, 35-70, 20-35, great lenses all, but the 14-24 and 24-70 usher in a new era where zooms can clearly match or surpass primes in many situations. The new 70-200 is probably going to be a match as well. And this is the only time where I own a pricey lens where I feel 100% happy with what it cost. That's how good the 24-70 is. And yes...the VR version will eventually come. By then Nikon will have advanced further and hopefully it will be even better than the current version. But for the next few years this 24-70 will be the lens to beat.

Get your hands up or I'll shoot!!!

D700, D40, D90, Nikon 24-70, Nikon 70-200 II (Pending), Sigma 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-300 VC, Tamron 180mm Macro, Nikon 70-300vr, Sigma 50mm 1.4 HSM

No question everytime I use my 70-200 VR I'm impressed, best quality and peformance in my collection, but I see its limitation on FX very clearly. For my needs it is good enough and I likely can't ever find the need to upgrade.

This past weekend I played again with the 24-70 at a store for a while, very nice. Only nikon will ever know if they could have pulled off a VR with same image quality for how much more bucks and weight. For my humble hobby can't find the justification for spending for that wonderful lense, nor am I yet worthy to need that either at the monent
