Maybe if you're not sure of the focus, you can check it with half press, then once you're sure it will focus you let the shutter go, and then full press again?

That's a really interesting idea. Ususally when trying to achieve maximum sharpness with hand-held shots I use 2 sec self-timer. But your technique could work too. I'll check it out.
