Exposing to the right in RAW

I was reading this article
http://www.digitalphotopro.com/technique/camera-technique/exposing-for-raw.html

about exposing to the right (exposing for highlights). One of the claims is that using this technique will give you less noise.

However it impacts the LCD display, and the histogram and highlight clippings are really for a jpg and not for the raw data, leaving with the risk to clip highlights. Very interesting article.

The article talks about a cannon. Is there anyone with experience of using this technique on a D3/D700 willing to share? Is it worth all the hassle?
