I am only thinking it would be interesting to see if any American Oil companies helped the Nazis ?

Standard Oil in prewar (but just) times made an agreement with IGFarben, the chemical big business of Nazi germany. They had a number of formulas, including synthetic rubber, in exchange for the formula to produce fuel for vehicles from coal, wothout which hardly Germany could have started WWII. After America went into war Standard Oil was not very popular. This had an effect on the history of photography: Standard Oil, needing to better its image, hired Roy Stryker, former head of FSA, to build a cultural campaign based on photography and cinema. Stryker hired people like Berenice Abbott, Gordon Parks, Russell Lee and the young Elliot Erwitt. The Standard Oil (New Jersey) Collection is held by the University of Louisville, and is one of the great archives of the country.
