That article is not clear at all in my opinion, long-winded and misses the point of the OP's question. What matters most is the physical size of the ovf. This is proportional to the magnification divided by crop factor, so it's very easy to compare different ovf's from cameras with different size sensors. Coverage also plays a role, but practically all the ovfs are 95% or greater these days so it's less critical than magnification and crop factor.

Let's keep things simple if we can.
