G1 version 1.4 firmware allows 3rd party batteries!?!?

So it would appear that the G1 ver 1.4 firmware that was released on 9/17 actually allows the use of 3rd party batteries. Note that Panasonic has removed this firmware from their site after it was available for just a few hours, so perhaps enabling 3rd party batteries was unintentional. They have also pulled the GH ver 1.2 firmware. I downloaded the G1 ver 1.4 firmware before they removed it and have uploaded it here:

Two users have reported upgrading from ver 1.2 to this ver 1.4 and have still been able to successfully use their 3rd party batteries. See these posts:

It might be useful if folks with similar or contradictory experiences post to this thread. Some open questions at the moment:

  • If you were locked out by 1.3 does loading 1.4 get your batteries back?

  • Does GH1 ver 1.2 also allow 3rd party batteries.

  • Does someone have the GH1 ver 1.2 firmware to share/upload?

Full disclaimer: I do not have any 3rd party batteries to test this with, I've just noted others success and provided the firmware file. As of yet I haven't actually upgraded my camera to 1.4 either.
