Why is there so much shutter noise with all 4/3s?

Re: Shutter noise - thanks and a summary

4/3rds sensors are large compared with digicam sensors. I don't know if you are imagining that the G1 sensor is similar to a digicam sensor size and thus it's only a matter of time until someone makes MicroFT with digicam-like shutter.

For practical purposes (such as shutter design) 4/3rds sensors should be compared with APS-C sensors (which range in size quite a bit just within that moniker). I don't think it's practical to hope that the next few months will bring a completely new type of shutter assembly to mid sized sensor cameras. That said, some DSLRs are quieter than others. My E-1 is very quiet compared with others. So sound dampening can be effective--but possibly best by a physically massive body.

What if the hokey pokey really is what it's all about?
