Simple question for currently active A700 users with the objective of understanding better how often the MLU feature is actually used.

When was the last time you used the MLU function:

(a) This week
(b) This month
(c) In the last 12 months
(d) Never

Please minimise comments, there are plenty of discussion threads on this topic already.

Many thanks for your time.

Use MLU every time the camera is placed on a tripod. Tests with and without MLU show no difference (quite heavy tripod), so I do not actually know why I use MLU. Bad habit, maybe?

A100 has 2 second MLU, use it a LOT in fall to spring, that 2 second delay really helps when bracing for low light shots without tripod, or the cheap or light tripods i can afford (money) or carry (weight)

So MLU is a deal breaker for me, so no A550 for me.

And in 99% of the tripod shots I ever taken with my DSLR. Why shouldn't I? It comes "for free" with the 2" self timer. I don't even need to think about whether the shutter speed and focal length in use call for turning it on.

Always with a tripod...so this week. What a pity the wireless remote does not have an option to use it. I understand the argument why it doesn't but it doesn't stack up for me

I use MLU frequently on tripod shots , in fact for the A900 it is more or less mandatory.

The idea that MLU is not required or seldom used is a nonsense & it is really stupid of Sony to leave it off the 2 sec timer on the A50/550. The mirror has to lift when the shutter is fired so why not lift it at the start of the 2 sec period , what harm can that do ? Those who say that image blur never occurs due to mirror slap are either very inexperienced or are being dishonest.

At the possibility of crushing some people's view of me.

This feature should have been on the A500/A550.. It has the remote cord.. good which is only half the solution for low light / medium long exposure shots..

I don't see it as needed on the A230-A380...
I think it was questionable to remove it from the A200-A350

but the A500/A550 are not bridge DSLRs they are budget enthusisasts cameras. For people serious about the craft of photography.. it should have MLU .. its not just a UI issue is something that affects slow shutter speed shots especially when Sony says turn off SSI for tripods.

Its not as big a loss as AEL on on the entry levels or bracketing being removed by Nikon.. on the D40 -D60 ish cameras.. but I agree with those that say it was a mistake for these cameras.

Other just testing the function.............never.
Not to say I won't use it but in about 9 months I have not needed it yet.
