Same result, huh?

Here you go, simpler than this it cannot be:

Three sensors, each done in the same "new technology", each having same area (16x16 units).

"£" is representing area unit for the "dead" sensor area (non-light sensitive: circuitry, well walls),
"$" is for light sensing area unit.

Let's call them both 2.43875um square, just for the "scientific-ness" of the example, some ppl need these numbers bad:

1) Sensor resolution: 2x2

Woohoo! Still claiming the same photosensitive area, when MP are added to the same size sensor, made in the same technological process?

Now, I am in marketing departmentt, and I am announcing:

"We have increased our sensor resolution from 2x2 to 4x4, at the same time increasing overall light capturing area of the sensor by 44%". True.

But I am saying: "If you stay at 2x2 resolution, you would have increased the light capturing area by 96%". Also true.

Now, we are not at the 2x2 sensor resolution stage. We are at 10MP and above. Thus I claim, that we need more photo-sensitive area, and not necessarily any more resolution.

Again, I refer to all-rounder prosumer cameras.
