50D/40D shutter count using EOSInfo.

The link below will get you to a program that "appears" to work ... several folks on this forum have recommended using the program to determine the shutter count of your camera.

I just want to make a couple of points regarding EOSInfo.

First, in spite of what is written at Astrojargon, EOSInfo will not work if DPP is the only Canon program installed on your PC. I had to find my Canon installation CD and let the S/W install everything; after I did this then EOSInfo ran successfully. Sorry, but I have no clue which one (or more) of the 50 million programs that Canon installed on my PC was the one that did the trick. Oh, I should have mentioned that my OS is wXP.

Second, information from Canon's technical support indicates the "actual or true" shutter count is stored in the camera's memory and only Canon's proprietary S/W can get to the true shutter count information.

The Canon technical support comment aside, it sure looks to me that EOSInfo works! Note, keep in mind I always reserve the right to be wrong.
