metering flashes fired by CLS

I have a question regarding metering cordless SB900/800 flashes when using the CLS system.

I'm getting some bizarre readings when I try to meter (with a Sekonic 308s) the output of my SB units fired from my D700 via CLS.
The meter is in cordless mode, held by an assistant in the scene.
Remote flashes fired by the camera via the "pop-up" flash in CLS mode.

Meter gives f1.4 when f11 gives a proper exposure.
Camera and flashes are all in manual node.

Does anyone have any experience and advice when using meters with cordless flash.

with best wishes
Malcolm Sales.
