For Drew ///Re: But what's the point????

I think you are write about the voltage issue.

But I shoot the D700 because it is much smaller.

Me too, but another important reason for me was the PUFlash(macro, fill-in and commander mode). I changed my D3 for a D700 for both reasons...

The LAST thing I want to do is slap on a grip and have a BIGGER camera than my D3. If I am going to carry a camera larger than the D3, I might as well get the dual memory cards, etc.

I prefer a modular system that gives you both opportunities. The day I'll have two FF bodies it will be 2 D700's, or a D700 and a 24Mp new version of the D700, never a D3 and a D700.

As I said I don't see any difference in AF with AF-S lenses, but underwhile (based on the comments of many people who own both) I suspect possible differences in AF with screw driven lenses... I tested in real live situation with both cameras and 24-70 F2.8 : . In this test comments I wrote that I did not "notice" differences with screw driven lenses neither, but there I might have been wrong while I did not do it side-by-side and not as detailed as I tested with AF-S lenses...

Another possibility might be that people who own both, have "the impression" D3 is focusing faster than D700 only because of more fps...

The increased number of shots and number of flash firings with the D700 + grip might be another reason...
Kindest regards,

I prefer one really good picture in a day over 10 bad ones in a second...
