Everybody knows that an error may occur when playing a DVD disc with a region code setting different than that of the drive. Now if you want to solve the problem and play your different region code DVDs on your computer, how to finish?

Now here recommend 2 methods to play different region DVD’s on your computer:
1.Change the region code setting of your computer.
You just have 5 chances to change the region code.

2. There is also a better method with using External Drive.

To use the External Drive, you do not need changing the region codes, most important, you can backup your favorite DVD easily.

Just tried VLC - no joy. I wonder if DVD player automatically opening is stopping VLC reading the disc properly?

Don.

A Land Rover, a camera ... I'm happy!

A look at the link and it is really about copying a DVD out of region, not playing one. And it promotes a $40 software package (it may be a free download, but it isn't free to use) plus the external drive.

I'd think that all you would need to play is an external DVD drive set to the other region. You need one drive per region you want to play.

Get a copy of Mac the Ripper, or Handbrake. Rip the DVD to you hard disk and just play it. MTR removes the region code, or it can reset it. Saves battery power playing it from the disk.

Only my opinion. It's worth what you paid for it. Your mileage may vary! ;-}

Most likely it's because your DVD drive ir region locked (they are locked by default). I remember reading somewhere that VLC deals with it not on every drive.

There's a dedicated web site to region free DVD drive firmware - http://www.rpc1.org

Mac specific forum is here: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewforum.php?f=30

Making your Mac region free is trickier that Windows PC, however it's doable.

Who, exactly are you calling a spammer, Edvinas? Do you even know the definition of "spammer"? And if not me, then who, and what exact remark would qualify for a "spammer" designation?

Switch to threaded view ;)

My message was targeted towards original poster, not you, Doug.

My message is a good example why it is not good to ommit quotes...
