Digital ICE vs. FARE ?

I’ve narrowed my search to either the Epson V500 or the Canon 8800F for scanning some 35mm slides & negatives. The Nikon Coolscan is just not in my budget.

From what I’ve read, both scanners use an infrared system for dust & scratch removal which does not appear to work well with Kodachrome. This is a concern since I have both Kodachrome & Ektachrome slides.

For Ektachrome, which works better, Epson’s ICE or Canon’s FARE?

Which bundled scanner’s dust/scratch removal software works better for Kodachrome?

I emailed SilverFast & they said their iSRD dust/scratch removal software does not work with the Epson V500, but the Canon 8800F comes with Silverfast SE, which their web site states includes iSRD. But Canon’s web site & literature says the 8800F comes with FARE 3. Does the FARE system incorporate the iSRD software?
