A lot of Indian life takes place in the early morning/evening hours

I have found a fast 35, 50 or 85 makes a useful addition to a travel kit for those "available dark" experiences.

Take the wides, of course, and I enjoy getting shots of distant details in the architecture. In my younger days I always brought the 70-200 2.8. Now I take the 70-300vr and am happy to have it.
