I was just there for 7 days in June and I will second this piece of advice a million times over.

As a former native New Yorker my advice is if you are staying only two weeks and don't plan on driving or renting a car then I would not stray too far from Manhattan. There is enough to see in Manhattan alone to take up a lifetime.

BAD advice! There is lots to see in the Bronx: Yankee Stadium, Bronx zoo, Botanic gardens, the South Bronx where rap was born.
Brooklyn: Coney Island&Brighton Beach, Manhattan beach - Sheepshead Bay.
Mermaid Parade is the only day in NYC when the ladies walk around topless.
Go on promenade or under Brooklyn Bridge for a great view of Manhattan.
