Lost camera

a friend of mine lost her camera recently but got it back from a trusting stranger because she had her name and phone number written on the memory card.

That got me thinking. If I lost my DSLR just now there's really nothing to indicate who it belongs to. I guess it's easy to take a pic of your name and number and leave that on the memory card or do as my friend did and write your name (tinily) on the actual card but what about the camera itself? I'd be reluctant to put anything permanent on it as at some point I'd want to sell it or trade it... What do others do?

Or is it that the pics on the memory card are the most important and you let insurance cover the camera?
