gray market BS--a story

Here's an interesting story. I bought a 5D II last week from a shop I trust and one that does it's own service and has a very reliable reputation in a large European city. The warranty is provided by the shop.

The serial number in the exif is of recent manufacture 093XXXXXX. However someone took the trouble to remove the serial number from the box and paste a fake serial number on the body (so stupid you can see it here).

The store seems to have sourced its camera from someone who really doesn't want the original serial number being tracked from (probably Asia) to Europe.

The camera checks out so far. No dead pixels, clean sensor, spot-on focus. I think I'll keep it and not ask for a refund. I trust the shop to make good on the warranty. What do you guys think?

If anyone from Canon wants to contact me feel free! I'll tell you the real serial number of the camera.
