Is RAW really RAW??

I dont know if this is the right forum to post, but I have a feeling that there are many more PRO's here....

I am a little new to the RAW thing so if I am wrong correct me.

As I understand the NEF files (RAW) contain the camera's RAW-data. With this you can do more in PP using CaptureNX for example. More than you could with a JPEG file out of the camera.

I always was under the impression that RAW-data would give more flexibility during PP, because it contains the camera's RAW data.

For example:

  • Changing ISO

  • Have the ability to correct focus when focus if off due to back focus problems or something like that.

I do not own one of the high end NIKONs.

Maybe these possibilities already exist in the current camera's RAW-data but have not yet been implemented in NIKON's software.

Hopefully there will come a release where this all is possible.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
