I am traveling with the family and have one shot to visit a camera store in Denver. If I am primarily interested in Nikon lenses and higher-end accessories (good filters, etc), is there one store that I shouldn't miss?

If you don't mind paying list price, some would say you should visit Mike's Camera (several locations in the Denver/Boulder area). I recently found a 300 f4.0 AFS in stock at Mike's and they were willing to haggle a bit on the price. Englewood Camera on South Broadway (Broadway and just south of Littleton Boulevard) is not a Nikon dealer but they typically have a good supply of used lenses at good prices. They have about the most knowledgeable staff of anywhere. Other than those, there is Wolf Camera, but it is part of the Ritz chain and, again, sells at list price. Some Wolf stores, particularly the one on East Arapahoe Road are better stocked than others. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately you'll find Denver's camera market is nothing special. As the other poster mentioned Mike's Camera in Boulder is the areas best camera store but they are a full MSRP dealer. Englewood Camera is a great store but they are mainly a Canon dealer so their selection of Nikon is pretty limited, you'll only find 4 or 5 used lenses and a small selection of new Tamron/Sigma lenses. They are a great store for accessories (tripod/bags). Camera Trader in Englewood is a fun store to look around, they sell mostly used gear with a heavy emphasis on manual focus. They also have a good selection of accessories and bags.

Denver has no dealer that will sell you a new camera or lens for a price anywhere near B&H so most of us get our stuff mail order. We do have a large community of buyers/sellers on Craigslist and that is where we buy/sell our used gear. I've met many local photographers from Craigslist sales and made several friends that way who share my passion for Nikon gear and photography in general.

Thanks for the info. Since I'm a regular w/B&H, a good used selection might be the ticket. The stores in my area don't carry used lenses. Thanks again!

If you are looking for ideas and people that use the equipment then
it would be time well spent to visit a Mike's Camera store (I use the one
in Boulder) and look around. They also do printing and processing as well.
Their prices are not as cheap as mail order labs, they do work on quite
a bit of media so well placed questions and ideas will help you deal with
your regular lab.
