24-105L vs 35/2 and 85/1.8

Recently picked up a 24-105L to go with my 5DMk1 and thought it might be interesting to compare its performance with a couple of primes I have - a 35mm f/2 and an 85mm f/1.8. Not a full blown test by any means - I could only compare at these two focal lengths and I shot JPEG rather than RAW - but some interesting results even so.

The first (and surprising to me) is that within the limits of the 5D's resolution, the 24-105's centre sharpness almost matches either of the two primes. Also interesting is that the 24-105L has much better edge performance than the 35/2 at any aperture. Wide open edge performance is not so hot at the long end but improves substantially by f/8 and again there's not much in it at f/11.

Anyway, see for yourself. I haven't embedded images as there's obviously a fair bit data involved.
