Noise filtering programs compared, samples-->

For those interested, or looking into getting noise filtering software, I did a quick comparison of Noiseware Pro, Noiseninja and Topaz Denoise. It's important to note that Topaz requires a fast computer, that it requires manual settings pretty much every time to get best results and that it's by far slowest (even with a fast computer). Therefore, the latter seems more suitable for those with demanding wishes, patience and/or people who only apply sophisticated noise filtering to images they prefer (to print) large.

But here's a quick comparison. The base file was a straigh RAW conversion from a noisy Panasonic FZ18 file, an underexposed ISO400 shot, pushed to ISO800.

Here's a 100% crop of the original file:

This is what I got after tweaking Noiseninja:

And this was after tweaking Noisewarepro:

And finally, the results with Topaz Denoise. Obviously this took by far longest to process (about a minute):

This is the full frame of the ISO800 Topaz filtered shot:

The Noiseware and Noiseninja results can use some sharpening but that will increase noise levels again aswell. Topaz results aren't free from artifacts but usually hold up the best when printing/viewing large.
