first experince with the TSE 17mm

Since I got a copy today in the evening (in Austria three dealers got one copy) - I could not wait and have been out in the evening for some night shots in Vienna

first impresions:

  • lens is very solid built (much better than the old 24mm TSE, which I also use)

  • easy to use, but while I often use the 24mmTSE without tripod, I am sure I will never use the 17mm without a tripod

  • my impression doing these nights shots was, that without live view, getting the right focus would be very difficult - but live view (on my 5d MKII) really supports you very well to get the right focus

  • all shots done with tripod, remote control and in live view mode

  • the lens is really sharp

  • when shifted you can find some CA (but much less than on 24mm)

(you can find uncompressed full size samples here: )

these two samples were only sharpened in LR2.3 (90; 0,8; 30)
no other PP
both with f8
both where shifted up 10mm

I am really stunned about this lens!
