JTL Beauty Dish - Finally

That is good news, thanks for posting.

I was getting close to buying the Interfit beauty dish and grid, but will wait to see how the JTL looks and is priced. I am mostly interested because of the larger size. I think the 16" for Interfit is a bit smallish, though it is compact enough for location use.

FWIW, here is the Interfit version:

And Interfit Grid:

There is also the Bowens version:

I'm hopeful it will be well priced like most JTL products. The 27"
is exactly what I've needed for my Mobilights for some time.

Same here. I have been using a 30" umbrella without a reflector on the monolight, so the flash head is pushed up into the umbrella. This gets close to the effect of a beauty dish, as it eliminates the hot spot in the center, but I don't like having that shaft sticking out in front and I cannot get as close as I would like sometimes unless I want to Photoshop the shaft out of the photo.

Did you happen to notice the new sandbag design? Finally, someone gets it. I have plenty of double bags, but the new JTL bags are just right for bagging a stand.

Looks like the same ebay BD with their name added to in and painted
black on the back nothing now.
I don't think so. The materials look quite different and the mount on the eBay model looks like it is designed to be replaceable for use with other flash mounts. I think that the crinkle finish looks quite rough and cheap. I bought some reflectors from that eBay vendor before and they were very thin and cheaply made. Conversely, the Interfit background reflector I bought is surprisingly nice for its low cost.

The JTL reflectors that came with my lights (of different age & model) vary from thin & cheap to surprisingly well made and robust (professional quality). I don't know what they are shipping these days, so reserve comment on their current offerings. I can say that my oldest light, a Versalight 200 came with a toy reflector that rivals the one from eBay's Oeccamera for cheapness. My next oldest Mobilight 300 reflectors are top notch, while the newer Mobilight 300 reflectors are on the thin side. In defense of JTL, all five of my lights seem to be good quality with solid construction, it is only the reflectors that seem to change so drastically with time.

Well, the mount is not correct. Looks like that one would require customization, which is a pain, IMO. I reserve comment on build quality until I have a chance to purchase one, but I imagine (hope/expect) price will be similar.

I just broke another brand new umbrella SB. I cannot wait for this thing.

I got some pricing:

JTL 16" Beauty Dish 2571 $89.95
JTL 22" Beauty Dish 2572 $159.95
JTL 27" Beauty Dish 2573 $199.95

Should be orderable in a few more days.

Any Idea it these will have grids? Also, does anyone know where to get grids in various degrees for the standard barn doors? I got the set with a barn door one grid and a few gels but would like more control with different grid options.

I emailed JTL and they confirmed that they are not offering grids for their beauty dishes. That's a deal breaker for me. jtl-lighting.com shows the price of the 16", 22", & 27" dishes to be $100, $180, & 300 respectively. For that price range I would go with the Bowens or Interfit systems. Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone else offering a larger beauty dish in the Bowens mount, so JTL may be the first.

Here is the Interfit beauty dish that I am considering:

And the grid to go with it

Here is the Bowens version. Note the unusual double diffuser cap

$300 is correct, for the 27". I just got mine today, actually. The reason for the expense is the oversized shipping. It comes in a huge box. The original price was way lower when I pre-ordered. This guy usually matches Adorama. Service has been good. Will order from him again. Price includes shipping.

The dish does come with a diffuser sock. I'm not sure if that is standard for other dishes or not. The fact that it was made to fit my lights and does not require any extra modification made it worth the price for me. I'm looking forward to using it outside on my Mobilights. I'll post something when I get a chance to use them.
