I think I figured out the 620...

Raist3d, we are looking forward to it and are pleased to give you five days if necessairy and it would be nice if you support this with images.

One image could tell you and us more then a thousend words.

Cheers Lou

And by extension, the e-30... I am going to try one praticular thing
to make sure and I'll come back with what will probably be long post,
maybe a small rant included/maybe not... I think it will be of
interest to the newer camera model owners to get the best out of
their camera.

Give me 2 days.

Preliminary - yes, olympus shifted the dr up, the sensor true ISO is
still ISO 100, but now called ISO 200... Will explain later if I
corroborate what I think...

. . . the OP DID say that he MIGHT say something !!

I dunno whether I should "pace" or not . . .

(Very nice "boats" photo, btw . . . )

ISO standards. Seems like output has to correspond to 18% grey but that there is latitude of 1/3 of a stop. However, since output is measured at least in one way from output of camera JPEGs, the manufacturer of the camera can "fabricate" any ISO it sees fit. If they ever start implementing quality-based ISO measurement, that could change things.

Example:

"The Recommended Exposure Index (REI) technique, new in the 2006 version of the standard, allows the manufacturer to specify a camera model’s EI choices arbitrarily. The choices are based solely on the manufacturer’s opinion of what EI values produce well-exposed sRGB images at the various sensor sensitivity settings. This is the only technique available under the standard for output formats that are not in the sRGB color space. This is also the only technique available under the standard when multi-zone metering (also called pattern metering) is used."

"The Standard Output Specification (SOS) technique, also new in the 2006 version of the standard, effectively specifies that the average level in the sRGB image must be 18% gray plus or minus 1/3 stop when exposed per the EI with no exposure compensation. Because the output level is measured in the sRGB output from the camera, it is only applicable to sRGB images—typically JPEG—and not to output files in raw image format. It is not applicable when multi-zone metering is used."

Which is odd...as far as I can tell from the photos I posted, there is no significant difference between my 620 and 510 as far as exposure at 1600ISO.

And, yet, DXO has the 510 as being more sensitive by a small amount than the D700 in their ISO measurements.

you were the first to respond :-)

It doesn't matter if it was "in sarcasm"- you posted a response. Then you complain about it. Priceless :-)

The reason I need 2 days is to check everything and because I am very busy at work. Nothing more, no "marketing technique" or such silly thing. There's nothing more than that. If you know about the video game industry there's a big show coming called the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3, as in "E3" not E-3). I am working on a demo disc for our game for that. This is why I am fairly busy.

There's nothing more to it really. But hey, if it's going to pain so many apparently you have a few choices:
  1. 1. Don't read this thread! It's very simple :-)
  1. 2. Ignore me, move on.
  1. 3. If everyone really is "not so interested" then Ill just move on myself. I don't want to type information that nobody gives a hoot about. I only do this because I think it would be beneficial. I suspect I don't have to do #3 though.

correcto. It was very amusing to read that. I guess Bill when he posted the first reply was very genuily interested in what I had to say I am so sure now! :-)

it's about knowing what you can do with the 620 as it is.

Of course, I can understand Bill critique if I was a guy who didn't post photographs but since I do, I don't know where he's coming from.

That is the part I am interested in on a personal level since i already own it. More information about the camera is always welcomed by me. It's another part of the reason I am here. Free info. ;)

BTW: Good luck on the game demo.

I will be interested in the results. It's just that you haven't actually given us any facts to be interested in :-)

I look foward to the conclusions you reach and thank you in advance for the effort you will be putting in.

All I wanted to say was "I think I sorted this out but don't quite have the time to say something concrete just yet with more certainty , but this seems part of what is going on."

It was never intended to be an "attention grab" by itself. Given I have talked about the 620 a lot I just thought it would be good to mention this. I just got some snaps on a coffee break. Ill see what I can do tonight at home.

it can mix in with detail or destroy it. In general it actually destroys it but a certain amount mixed with it can actually give a perceived increase in detail and a certain texture that some may like (while other's don't). This within reason.

the thread wasn't exactly all about Flickr but Flickr was sure touched enough upon by Bill himself. I can understand how someone could easily think it had to do a lot with Flickr :-)
You didn't read that whole thread, apparently. It wasn't about
Flickr.
In that case, I apologize.

nah don't worry , people had a hard day at work and are just busting your butt, either while work (they won't admit to there employers) or just getting home),, I guarentee people will read your comments, when you write more,,

it is the razzing friends do to each other at work and socially (hopefully I am right) ,

Will give details in a couple of days. If I don't then it will be
because the agents of darkness have got to me,

Nick
LOL, that's exactly the kind of thing I thought of when I read the OP!

Jeez, OK, bury us in some new theory or unannounced voodoo, but open a thread that promises to put us hip-deep in it in a couple of days? This guy work for an Ad Agency?

that has to be exactly what it is. Now, take a look at all the reviews I have done of every camera I have gotten usually, including the 420 and e-330, and the photographs I post and then try to say that again with a straight face.

Hell, at least I can claim I do and post photographs.
