$1200 to burn... help!

So I just got the security deposit back from my apartment. And I've got $1200 to spend on a new lens.

Right now I have:
Canon 28-135 f3.5/5.6 IS
Tokina 12-24

I was very happy with my set up until I picked up the Canon 50mm f1.8 and realized how much better the sharpness was than my 28-135. I'm also in love with the wide aperture, as I do lots of shooting in low light conditions.

The type of shooting I'd mostly be doing would be concerts, events, portraits, and a bit of travel photography.

What I want:
1) good sharpness at both ends of the zoom.
2) wide aperture (around 2.8)
3) at least 28mm wide angle.

Right now I'm considering the Canon 24-70 2.8L and the Sigma 24-70 2.8.

anyone with any experience with these lenses?

any suggestions for other lenses to consider? I'm a very cautious spender, but this money is burning a hole in my pocket!
