Is the 35mm f1.4 a solution?

Stopped down to f8 - F11 the way a landscape is normally taken this lens is very sharp. At f2.2 closeup you will get incredible pictures with nice background qualities without needing a flash. Wide open can have a special effect but the DOF is very thin.

Don't be so afraid of the distortion worries. This lens is what a good tube amp is to a guitar player. It adds color and warmth to the picture. You just have to learn how to control it.

I have the Minolta version. It is extremely well built and perfectly balanced on the A900.
