Re: Cropped 200-400VR Shot at distance:

Hi Tony!

Wow, RB, that is a great bird shot.

Thanks!

Amazing what PP can do, but it is all in the RAW for you to be able to do that and that is only down to skill and using gear properly.

Exactly.
I think that I pulled just about everything out of the RAWimage that I could!

I agree with the being able to zoom back a bit to catch or keep up with things, the 500 is great, even if a handful but you can't zoom back and trying to spot things with it can be tricky. Mind you practice makes perfect, I know LOL

I'm looking forward to more 500VR pictures from you and others to tempt me further!

All the best to all! This is an old resurrected thread. Still interesting, but no zoom can match a prime, can it, other than the 14-24?

I agree.
The 14-24 is really a phenomenal zoom.

The 200-400VR has been my most used lens to date, and was my best lens at 200mm until I got the prime (200VR):
Nikon D3 ,Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED AF-S VR
1/160s f/6.3 at 200.0mm iso200

All my best to you and Sue!
