Re: Question about D700 auto sensor cleaning

Two things for me -- one, the access to the sensor is pretty tight, so it's hard to control the sensor swab stick precisely. The result is you can leave smudges on the sensor.

I used the recommended-for-D700 E2 fluid -- found it left lots of residue behind, probably partially because I couldn't control the stick as well. Fortunately, I had an old bottle of the original Eclipse -- it allowed me to clean up the residue that the E2 left.

Overall, it took me half an hour and five sensor swabs to get the D700 clean.

I'm guessing that if I had used the D700's sensor cleaning function from the start, I wouldn't have had to use wet swabs to get the gunk out. And my use of primes and constant lens swapping only makes the situation worse.

But the good news is -- clean in the end -- no damage done, and I'm ready to shoot a wedding tomorrow!
