Re: Wife's G9 is dead. - So was mine . . . Followup Remarks

In my earlier post I said if I found the paperwork I would fill in the details . . .

Recall that all I told them was my G9 wouldn't power up and the web site gave me an estimate to include Flat Rate Repair Charge (Parts and Labor included) of $149, Sales Tax $9.54 and shipping of $10. Total $168.54. The work was accomplished at the Factory Service Center in Elk Grove Villlage, IL.

Upon receipt they examined the camera and found:

"Unit has scratches Unit does not power on. Check all functions, repair to good working order. Flat rate repair Model parts and labor included in price."

Here is what they did:

"We have examined the product according to your request, and, it found that the pcb assembly [I have no idea what that is] was inoperative so the power supply did not operate preoerly. The pcb main, optical,dc/dc and window lcd assembly were replaced. Other electriccal adjustments, inspection and cleaning and parts replacement were carried out."

Now folks, I think they did very right by me and I am delighted. From the time I dropped it in the mail on a Friday afternoon to having it back was about nine days with two weekends in there. They billed me exactly what they said they would and the camera looks like new.

Oh, I could have been happier if they had said, oh what the hell, he's a real good Canon user, let's just send him a G10. But then I'm not a total whacko.

I could not have replaced it with anything close to the G9 for the price and now I still have my very fine go anywhere anytime camera. I still want a G10 and will probably get one, but when I want to, not when I need to.

For you conspiracy theroists out there, I have no associations whatsoever with Canon except as a customer. I just thought you should have the rest of the story.
