Trip to Africa - Help Needed Fast

Hi All

My daughter and son-in-law are going to Africa for 2-3 weeks. They will be spending about 5 days where animal photography will be possible. They just called me for ideas on cameras. We spoke at length and I tried to explain the facts of life to them. They have never used DSLRs. They want a DSLR. They have given me a budget of about $1000 for everything and time is very short.

My initial thoughts are:

  • A200 with two kit lenses (18-70 & 75-300)

  • A200 with Sony 18-250

  • Canon XSi or XS with two IS kit lenses (18-55IS & 55-200IS)

  • Panasonic G1 with two kit lenses (14-45IS & 45-200IS)

The four above combos are all stabilized. If it were me, I'd go for the A200 and 18-250; however, I'm prejudiced in favor of Sony. My second choice would be the G1 combo - it's small and relatively easy to use.

Your comments and suggestions would be appreciated. Time is of the essence!!!!!!
Thanks, Ed
