I hate to sound like a technophobe, because I'm not, but after a year
and a half with the 40d I still missed the big manual focus ring with
the finite beginning and end, like on my older film cameras. I didn't
miss the aperature ring on the lens quite as much but it still seemed
like a practical place to put it.

If you like manual focus and panorama, rent a Canon Tilt-Shift Lens, I bought a TSE-90, and the manual focus is as good or better than the old manual focus lenses. It has a nice long range of rotation, and is very smooth.

The apture is still automatic, and you get a focus confirmation if you want.

It just brings back memories of the old MF lenses, in fact, it seems better to me.
