I've already gotten one report from someone who's living overseas
with this exact problem, to which NikonUSA's tech support basically
said "you have a gray market camera and we can't help you." Gee,
thanks for the purchase of a US version of the software, but you're
out of luck now seems to be the message.

I live in France and did get NX2 from the US. I upgraded to NX2.2 just fine a couple days ago, but I did have to register my NX2 valid serial into the database first.

If adding a non US body serial into the database blocks upgrades of properly registered US software, then indeed this is crazy, but nothing Nikon couldn't fix...
