Re: Perfect "Dad" kit

I just got to a point where I am very happy with my "dad" kit...40D 17-55 2.8IS, 70-200 f/4, 24L , 50L and a 430EX. By far the two primes get the most use with the 17-55 coming in a close third.

My strategy was to first get the zooms for the coverage and then fill in with the primes as the funds allowed.

I don't know how old your kids are...but mine are 2 years and 2 months...I would suggest the prime in the 24-35mm range...a great length on the crops.

Since my kids are young I tend to shoot at a fairly close range and the 24 and 50 work out great. As they get a little older and spend a bit more time outside I will get the 135 2.0 and then switch out the 70-200 f/4 with the 2.8.
