A700 HDMI to LCD Problems

Hi All,
I cannot find an answer to this via Search, so....

I have an A700, and am trying to do what others have successfully done, and connect to an LCD TV, a 2.5 year old Samsung LE32R72B (32 in) for photo display. This is defined as HD Ready, displaying at 720p. I have bought a suitable HDMI cable on ebay, not the Sony one.

My LCD gives me a "mode not supported" message, which when googled seems quite common (XBoxes, PS3's, PC's etc) and Samsung tech support says is down to the device (camera) outputting at too high a resolution. They tell me that the LCD will accept 1360 x 768 tops.

I have a Sony technical note which says that the A700 outputs 720p at 1280 x 720p, but at what actual resolution ? Anyone know for sure ? Wikipedia says that 720p can be up to 1366 x 768, so am i losing out due to the extra 6 that the Samsung cannot take ? Or is my problem something else entirely!

Ideas appreciated.

Vin.
