G1 vs GH1 Sensor Aspect Ratio Diagram

I couldn't resist; it's become sort of a tradition that I do a sensor diagram when a new camera uses a multi-aspect sensor.

So I've made a diagram comparing how the different aspect ratios are realized on the G1 and GH1's sensors.

I was a little surprised that Panasonic's first MFT camera didn't use a multi-aspect sensor design. Both the description of the MFT standard and the 3:2 aspect ratio LCD of the G1 led me to believe that they would.

I'm also a little surprised that other manufacturers don't use this principle, choosing to crop and thus not utilizing the full image circle.

The 16:9 crop (yellow) on the GH1 uses a significantly larger area (10.7 megapixels) compared to the G1 (9.0 megapixels) - despite a similar pixel pitch.

Only the GH1's square format doesn't use the full image circle. Instead, it's a central crop of the sensor. As such, it would use the "sweet spot" of lenses like the Lumix G 7-14. Can anyone calculate what the 7-14's actual focal lengths would be using the square format? Equivalent horizontal field of view? That might be interesting.

Feel free to point out any errors in my diagram.
