Raw Therapee is a different converter than the others, but not
necessarily a better one.

I did not say it is, I said it is does not expire and it is free.

The same goes for LibRaw

LibRAW is not a converter at all, it is a decoder.

From the LibRaw website, referring to in camera Raw recording: "While
recording data in RAW format no digital processing is normally
applied. The conversion of RAW data for viewing and printing is
performed after the shooting using a powerful computer with a decent
monitor." That makes it sound as though Raw from the camera is always
as pure as fresh snow

It does not make it sound that way.

and the word "normally"

Used together with the words "digital processing"

If it were true, all Raw files from any camera would be exactly alike

No. Even without any processing the raw files would be different coming from different sensors and ADC methods. For example, different sensors process light in different ways because of the different spectral properties of the filters.

The OP of this thread used one particular converter for his noise
comparison.

You are missing the point. Please re-read his explanations why he was using Bibble.

No other converter would be any more perfect for all the
cameras than the one he used.

"More perfect"?

If one wants to compare sensors, converter is not needed at all because it introduces many variables.

A comparison using a different
converter might show some variables, but I doubt that they would be
vastly different.

Do it and you will see you are wrong on this account too.

And don't blame him for any camera company's failure to match their
camera ISO settings to the actual correct ISO.

Define "actual". However even if the rated ISO was used, images on IR site are still exposed differently, and light differs too.

I do not blame anybody in fact, I'm explaining why I'm not satisfied with the level of testing offered on many online resources. This thread is an excellent example of the trap into which a well-meaned user can fall.
