Ken Rockwell says all you need is 8bit JPEGs

Interesting little piece about why all you need is 8bit JPEGs from Ken's site today:-

"3.) No digital camera has a clean enough signal to warrant any more than 8 log bits for a final image. Click Image Quality Database, pick your camera, pick SNR 18%, and even the D3X, D3 and D700 can't muster a 40dB SNR, which is only 6.4 effective bits (ENOB). I realize this is beyond many of you, but it's why 8-bit JPGs and 8-bit Photoshop files are just fine once you've got your image properly adjusted."

Now I've never shot in raw, I don't have the time to fiddle. Lost a few shots due to highlight clipping, but not regularly enough to worry about it as some do! I've lost more shots due to. 1) Flat Battery 2) Full memory card 3) in the old days... Run out of film. BTW I've also printed at 22" x 17" (cropped off sides) from my D80 JPEGs and it comes out great, so I really see no need for raw.

Any one want to give a scientific opinion on Ken's comment?
